Reasons Why Your Furnace Isn’t Turning On

It can be frustrating and worrisome if your furnace doesn’t turn on. It could be due to a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Or, it could be due to a gas leak. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through some of the most common reasons why furnaces stop working and what you can do about it.

Malfunctioning Thermostat

One of the first things you should check if your furnace won’t turn on is your thermostat. Ensure it is set to heating and the temperature level is above the current room temperature.

Tripped Circuit Breaker or a Blown Fuse

If your furnace has stopped working, one of the first things you should check is your circuit breaker or fuse. If the circuit breaker has tripped, flip it back on and see if your system turns on. Replace any blown fuses and check if your furnace will start working.

Gas Supply Leaks

Check your gas supply for any issues. Make sure that the valve is turned on and for any leaks in the line. If you smell gas, it’s important to evacuate the area immediately and call your local HVAC company for emergency services.

Pilot Light Problems

Pilot light malfunctions will cause furnaces to remain shut down. An in-depth furnace inspection will reveal the issues that HVAC technicians can solve to let your furnace switch back on.

Dirty Burners

Dirty and grimy burners may be causing your furnace to remain turned off. Let a technician check various parts of your furnace’s burners to clean them thoroughly. Then, see if the furnace starts up properly.
