The Ideal Thermostat Settings for Different Activities

Correctly setting your thermostat will increase your home’s comfort, help you save energy and prolong the life of your HVAC system, as well. According to ENERGY STAR, your thermostat settings should depend on how you’re using the space and who’s in the room. For instance, indoor plants require certain temperatures to thrive, just as babies do to stay comfortable.

While you’re not at home. When leaving the house in the summer, it’s a good idea to turn the thermostat up. Doing so will allow you to control heat and humidity levels indoors while also saving on cooling costs. While you’re away, the ideal thermostat setting is between 85°F and 88°F.

For a good night’s sleep. Experts and experienced HVAC companies recommend setting your air conditioner’s temperature between 75°F and 77°F for restful, uninterrupted sleep. Another thing you can do to improve your sleep is to keep your room quiet, dark and cool.

During family meals. For your dining room, the best temperature is around 78°F. This setting ensures that you and your family are comfortable while indulging in your favorite meals.

When studying. While you or your kids are studying, set the temperature around 71.6°F. According to research, students who completed tests in a room with this temperature did better than students in a warmer place.

For babies. The best temperature setting for babies is between 65°F and 74°F. You can determine if your baby is feeling too cold or hot by feeling their chest and ears.

For houseplants. To prevent your houseplants from dying, keep the temperature between 65°F and 75°F. Make sure not to go beyond this range to keep your plant babies thriving.

We had our AC go out on one of the hottest days of the year.
