What Happens When Your AC Coils Don’t Match?

Your HVAC system is an extremely important part of your home. It adds comfort even in the most uncomfortable seasons, so it’s essential to keep it clean and functional. However, even if you schedule routine maintenance with your HVAC company, your system will still break eventually. One solution that you may think of is to replace a damaged condenser or evaporator coil to keep AC repair costs low. The problem is, your new coil may not match your system. What happens to your system if this is the case? Stone Heating and Air is here to help you understand what happens if you have mismatched condenser and evaporator coils.

AC Coils

Higher monthly energy bills. Evaporator and condenser coils that are mismatched in size will force the system to run longer. Since the smaller- sized coils can’t keep up with the capacity of the larger-sized ones, your system will need to use more energy. An air conditioner’s coils must always match to help maintain consistent performance throughout the entire system.

Decreased comfort. The main purpose of air conditioning companies is to ensure that your air conditioner keeps your home cool during the summer. If your AC coils are mismatched in size, this will lead to higher temperatures and humidity levels. If your evaporator coil is smaller, it can be a good dehumidifier, but it won’t cool your home. On the other hand, a larger evaporator coil can cool the house well, but there will be too much moisture in the air.

Reduced lifespan. An air conditioner with mismatched coils has compromised efficiency and longevity. This means that, since there’s extra stress being put on your system, the coils won’t be able to keep up with each others’ performance. This can eventually lead to expensive AC repairs and early failure of the entire system.

Voided warranties. It’s extremely important that you don’t do anything that will invalidate your HVAC system’s warranties. Manufacturers specifically designed your AC unit with coils that have the same size and SEER rating. If your coils are mismatched, then your manufacturer knows that your system will need frequent repairs and may even have to be replaced early in its lifespan
